Dark Down Here
They said it would be a short trip. They told me they had been in here before. They told me we would be fine and it would only take a few hours. They thought the detour would be fine. They never told me they would then just disappear.
I'm not sure how it happened. The walls seemed to have just moved. Everything changed and then the lights went out. They didn't want to tell me we were lost but I could tell. They seemed too nervous. They seemed way too scared.
The stories go that caves like these breath. They live and eat and digest and spit and shit. Where were we right now? In this tract? On our way to be the next meal? I can't see anything but can feel the drips falling from the ceiling. That salty taste.
I keep crawling. I don't know where they went. It all just went dark and quiet. I think I fell. I fell forever. Now I'm stuck. I can't hear. I can't see. The fuel from my pocket lighter is going out. All I can do is scratch these walls. Begging for help.
